How to Clean Tile Grout

With time, floor and wall tile grout can eventually stain and start to look dirty. To ensure your tiles continue to look their best, we’re going to give you some tips on how to properly clean your grout!

No matter how often you clean your kitchen or bathroom tiles, it’s inevitable that over time residual dirt with build up in the tile grout. The marks left can ruin the look of your tiles and is also unhygienic. So, to help you make sure this doesn’t happen to your tiles, we’ve created a quick guide to help you get your tiles back to their best!

Please note it’s essential to wear protective clothing like gloves and eyewear, and also to make sure a window is open for ventilation.

Get the Right Equipment

  • Cleaning Brush
  • Grout Cleaner (we recommend using Lithofin Grout Cleaner, which is available in our store)

How to Clean Grout

  1. Read the cleaning solution bottle instructions and check that it is safe to use with your tiles. Some tiles like marble and other natural stones may get damaged.
  2. Clean the surface with water to ensure no other dirt is on the tiles or grout.
  3. Next, treat the grout lines first by rubbing in the cleaning solution along the grout in a circular motion, and pay particular attention to dirtier areas. Move along from one side of the kitchen or bathroom to the other.
  4. Allow the grout cleaning solution to rest and work its magic on those difficult tile grout marks.
  5. Now you can rinse off the cleaning solution with clean water. Ensure that all of the residues removed.
  6. If any extra marks remain you can repeat the process on those extra pesky areas.
  7. Finally, dry the floor tiles or wall tiles. And you’re done!

Sealing the Grout (Optional)

If you want to avoid more dirt in the future, you can always seal the grout after cleaning it. Sealing the tile grout will create a protective surface that helps aid against any dirt build-up, making it easier for you. Once you’ve completed these steps and the surface is entirely dry, your tiles and grout should be good as new. However, if you have followed the instructions and it still looks stained and dirty, you may have to replace the grout entirely.
